About the area
The southern region of Alicante, Spain is called the Costa Blanca South. It stretches from Alicante to Pilar de la Horadada, a distance of 65 kilometres. The area includes towns, fishing villages, and inland scenery. Each year, thousands of tourists fly into Alicante Airport (ALC) for the coastline alone, with around 15 km / 9 miles of exceptional beachfront. The main beach is Playa de San Juan, where bathing and water sports are the main theme. The Old Town features the intriguing Santa Barbara Castle, the 14th century St. Mary's Church and a whole host of eateries.
Alicante Airport stands in the city of Elx and within the Elche municipality, close to Santa Pola and the Mediterranean coastline itself. The busy A-7 and N-332 motorways lie next to the airport, while Alicante city centre is just 9 km / 6 miles to the north-east. The most popular destinations include Barcelona, London, Madrid and Mallorca.
