About the area
Granada is the capital city of the province of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. Granada is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, at the confluence of four rivers (the Darro, the Genil, the Monachil and the Beiro). The city sits at an average elevation of 738 metres above Sea level, yet is only one hour drive from the Mediterranean coast (the Costa Tropical).
The coast (Costa Tropical) is about a 45-50 min drive from Granada city (just over 40 miles). At the western end of the Costa Tropical, Almunecar offers a large number of fabulous beaches. Coming from the city, Salobrena beaches are the closest. There is also a good choice for beach lovers around the town of Motril.
