Lee Juggurnauth is house hunting along the shores of the Mar Menor, a large saltwater lagoon in southern Spain with Joan and her daughter Kathryn, searching for their perfect holiday home. They know the area well, and have a budget of £70,000 – but will any of the 5 properties Lee has lined up impress them enough to make an offer?
About the area
The Mar Menor, or “Small Sea,” is actually a rather large saltwater lagoon lined with sunshine holiday resorts, and it’s pretty easy to get to, with tons of flights into Alicante Airport, about an hour’s drive away. It’s perfect for families, and there’s a host of water sports, as it’s calm, has shallow beaches, and its high salt levels keep you afloat.
We’re focusing this search along its northern edge, amongst a handful of spectacular resort towns like Santiago de la Ribera and Lo Pagán, which both have a great combination of holiday and community. On the Mar Menor, a two-bedroom, ready-to-move-in apartment with outside space and a communal pool will typically set you back around £100,000, but if you are willing to compromise, some great deals can be found for substantially less.
