Best friends Sally and Leonie are looking for a holiday house on the Costa Dorada, focusing on the coast near the historic city of Tarragona. Jasmine Harman is tasked with finding their perfect place for their maximum budget of £280,000. Will any of the five properties they see hit the spot?
About the area
Located south of Barcelona, the Costa Dorada is a beautiful stretch of coastline in the Catalonia region of Spain. The easiest way to get there is to take the two-hour flight to Barcelona, and from there it’s around a 30-minute drive. This fabulous coastline is considered quieter than its more touristy Costa cousins to the south. It’s known for its shallow turquoise waters, beautiful beaches, and important historic sites such as the UNESCO World Heritage city of Tarragona with its famous amphitheatre.
The Costa Dorada offers good value for money when compared with other parts of Spain’s north-eastern coastline. On the Costa Brava, traditionally a favourite amongst British buyers, a three-bedroom house with a pool will typically set you back at least £325,000 — but here the average starting price is around £260,000.
