House hunters Clara and David are looking for a holiday home on the island of Fuerteventura. Laura Hamilton shows them five properties for their £150,000 budget but will any impress enough for them to put in an offer?
About the area
Fuerteventura is characterised by its endless white beaches, turquoise sea, and strong winds. At 1,660km2 it is the second largest of the Canary Islands and has a population of just over 122,000 inhabitants. The island has 150km of beaches, a paradise for sunbathers and water sports enthusiasts. There is a huge market for holiday homes and, much like all the other Canary Islands, prices have been steadily increasing in recent years with no signs of slowing down. Two-bed apartments range from €140,000 to €420,000 depending on the area, while houses and villas tend to sell for between €300,000 and €3 million. Average prices per square metre range from €1,270 in the cheapest area, Puerto del Rosario, to €2,900 in the north of the island.
