Laura Hamilton jets off to the north coast of the beautiful Greek island of Crete to help Mark and Carrie find their dream holiday home. They have a budget of £120,000 and Laura has some great properties to show them – but will any be perfect?
About the area
Rethymno is a city on the northern coast of Crete, which is the largest of the Greek islands. To get there you can fly directly to Chania airport from the UK, and the city is a 23 mile drive from there. Famed for its gorgeous Old Town, it has a rich mythology with the Greek Gods. There’s a really pretty Venetian Harbour, filled with boats and lined with tavernas serving traditional Cretan food. All overlooked by its 1830s lighthouse, which is one of many historical monuments dotting the city – including a mosque, converted during the Ottoman period which is now a music conservatory. As well as all this - plus trinket shops galore, there’s several coves and beaches – it’s main one is long and sandy, with gentle waters perfect for swimming - and is a nesting site for the island’s native loggerhead turtles.
