About the area
The best way to get to La Cala de Mijas on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain is to fly into Malaga, which takes about three hours from loads of UK airports – then it’s less than half an hour’s drive. La Cala de Mijas, which was a quiet fishing village until the Spanish tourist boom of the 1960’s is seen as one of the gems of the Costa Del Sol – less lively than some of its neighbouring resorts, it’s home to a lovely sandy beach and oodles of great shops bars and restaurants, and retains its traditional Andalusian appeal despite its growth in popularity over the years. It’s also home to a large British community, with a mixture of full time residents and holiday home owners.
