Albuferia lies within the region of the Central Algarve. Translated, its name means “castle of the sea”, and it is arguably Portugal’s most popular holiday town – and you’re certainly never going to be short of things to do here, even though it was still a small fishing village just over 50 years ago. It’s made up of two main areas – the old town and the Strip, which is very popular with party people. And if you’re a fan of the beautiful game, look out for Portuguese football legends Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo, both of whom have holiday homes here.
