The beautiful 'Blue Flag' beaches of Orihuela Costa are clean and safe and are very popular in the summer for holidays, but they are still very much used during quieter times. Boasting 320 days of sunshine a year, nothing is more relaxing and stress-free than wandering along one of these beautiful beaches. Christmas Day is a lovely time with primary tourists on the beach wearing Father Christmas hats, cracking open their bottles of champagne and picnic boxes and enjoying the day on the beach. The local Spanish residents prefer to stroll along the coast on New Year's Day. Walking along the beach to Torrevieja from the Orihuela Costa and then back is lovely in slightly cooler weather. The World Health Organization has deemed this area one of the healthiest places to live.
Travelling from the Orihuela Costa, move even further southwards to the lovely beaches of the Mar Menor and Murcia. Here, you can enjoy an excellent mud bath to rejuvenate and clean the skin or visit the wonderful city of Cartagena, steeped in so much history you won’t know where to begin. Take in the beautiful 'marbled streets', the 'Walled City', the historic Roman Theatre, magnificent architecture, and much more. Cartagena is a port city with a naval base and boasts beautiful sandy beaches. Cala Cortina Beach is only 4 kilometres from the city, so the peace and tranquillity of this area are well worth the visit.
