Spain keeps its top spot in our 10 Best Places to Buy in 2018 and its dominance has got even stronger in the past year. As security fears linger elsewhere in Europe, and some British buyers are keen to make their move abroad before Brexit, Spain has been the main winner.
Tourism is booming, airlift grows and the property market continues to improve, although prices remain well below the market peak in many areas, with the notable exception of sought-after areas of the Balearics, Madrid and Barcelona.

Investors and lifestyle buyers have certainly been targeting Barcelona, one of Europe’s most exciting city markets, but the Costa Blanca is a perennial favourite year after year, with prices still highly affordable and lots of exciting new-builds under construction. It includes three of our biggest Spanish hot spots for enquiries this year - Torrevieja, Villamartin and Cuidad Quesada - these three destinations are certainly in demand.
Also interesting is that the Canaries are still benefitting from the drop in interest in other affordable winter sun locations such as Egypt and Morocco. Lanzarote was one of our fastest rising locations in the past year. Just make sure you do your research, budget for Spain’s relatively high buying costs, negotiate hard and use a currency broker.
