The Department of Rhone is a French department located in the south east of France and it is the smallest department of the Rhone-Alpes region. The Rhone department covers the Beaujolais and the Lyonnais areas. It has borders with the Saone et Loire, Ain, Isere, Loire departments.

The scenery is composed of mountains: Monts du Lyonnais and Monts du Beaujolais. Rhone is a touristy location famous for the fabulous Beaujolais wines, the golden stone villages, rolling landscapes etc. This is a very good destination for nature lovers who can equally relax or be more energetic and take walks in this astonishing area.

The Monts du Lyonnais, located between Lyon and Saint-Etienne, have a length of around 40km, this mountainous area is sought after for its tranquillity and beautiful scenery. Of course the area of Beaujolais, where the popular wine is produced is famous world wide every 3rd Thursday of November when Beaujolais Nouveau is released as the first vintage of the year.

The region is also nicknamed the country of golden stones due to the ochre colour of the local earth. For those who are more interested in culture, Rhone is also the perfect department, the historical site of Lyon is part of the World Heritage (UNESCO), Museums in the department are worth visiting. The Gallo-Roman museum lets you discover mosaics, and discover everyday life items plus there is a archaeological site.
