Steeped in history, this little piece of local heritage consists today of various houses, once all of them part on the original country monastery. Today, Casa Nia is a very comfortable, peaceful, cool and serene space, set in what remains of the monastic grounds, just minutes from picturesque Sedella and an ideal location for walks along the many mountain trails.

Upon arrival (along a very good dirt track of 600m), there is a communal car park at the end of a short driveway off the track, onto ancient cobbles. From here, it is possible to see what remains of the monastery and even part of the original monk cells. From the car park, there are various areas that were once part of the monastery gardens, used by the owners of the properties that today make up the complex. Of particular use is a lovely, shaded patio area, ideal for outdoor eating and barbecues, under the thick shade of the ancient carob trees, and in the distance, the glint of the blue Mediterranean Sea reminds us that we are not far from the coast, despite being up in the mountains.

Casa Nia, one of the charming little houses that today make up the complex, has a front door that leads directly into a beautiful living room/dining room (7 x 3m) with original beams, painted white, and very thick stone walls. This lovely room is homely, and there is a modern pellet stove in one corner, for Winter evenings. An opening leads beyond into the kitchen (4 x 2.25m). The current owner has recently installed a new, modern and very attractive kitchen, which is fully fitted and very comfortable, with plenty of storage units within easy reach. Ahead, is the door to the inner private patio, and to the left is a door to the main bedroom (3 x 2.25m) with wall heater, and the ensuite bathroom (3 x 1.5m). The rooms all have the original beams on the ceiling, painted white for maximum light.

The courtyard patio has been made into a relaxing, serene space, more like a mini garden, with potted flowering plants and vegetables, offering a green contrast against the bright, white walls. A useful gazebo cover adds much needed shade and a touch of elegance. There is a built-in barbecue for outdoor cooking and dining.

Access to the guest bedroom is from the patio. This lovely room, (3 x 2m) as cosy and attractive as the main bedroom, has a fascinating little window with a fabulous view – it is like looking through a telescope, as the walls are so incredibly thick! Next door is the guest ensuite bathroom (3 x 1m). Both bathrooms are beautifully finished, with attractive fittings and comfortable walk-in showers.

From the courtyard patio, steps lead up to a terrace, again, a lovely space with wonderful views. This space is used mainly in the Spring, Autumn and Winter, and in Winter especially, when the atmosphere is particularly clear, one can even glimpse the mountains of Africa.
