Full Description

Elegant, spacious, charming house (400 sqm) in the beautiful, sunny village of La Sassa, with access from the pretty cobbled lane.

Stone built house in the heart of a magical hilltop village, very spacious, and offering options as holiday home or as home/business. With five bedrooms and large living areas there is ample space with additional potential to extend the habitable space in the large attic, and with land of 6,500 sqm (1.5 acres).

The entrance is into a majestic hall; one floor up there is a second hall, a big kitchen and dining area, with fireplace and a long table with chairs; a large living room, five spacious bedrooms and another bathroom. From the kitchen there is a door with access to the attic, same size as the main floor, with five rooms; this space could be converted into another self-contained unit or it could become part of the main house offering additional habitable space. On the lower ground floor there is a cellar, two large store rooms and three marvellous and unique vaulted cellars; in the past this part of the house was a restaurant and the three vaults were used as romantic dining areas. From the lower ground floor there is a door opening onto a small landing area where a staircase leads down to the back lane and the garden/land. The land has not been used recently but it could easily become a landscaped garden to enjoy or a vegetable garden could be created - gardening and vegetable growing are fantastic pastimes enjoyed by many in the friendly community at La Sassa.

In excellent condition, the main house has been renovated preserving the original Tuscan architectural features. It is ready to move in to, a perfect home in which to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. It is in a perfect location to explore the natural and artistic beauty of Tuscany, with Volterra and San Gimignano within striking distance, and Florence and Siena close by for great days out. There are many other delightful villages, not so well known, but equally interesting and picturesque throughout the Val di Cecina, one of the greenest areas of central Tuscany. All services are connected and good wifi is available.

The house is in the historical centre of the village with many services available (doctor, pharmacist and dentist). There is a grocers shop which also sells fresh panini and ice cream and there is a good restaurant. Every day sellers from different areas arrive in the village piazza with vegetables, fruit, fresh bread and specialist regional cuisine. There are many popular festivals and there is a friendly community ready to welcome the newcomers to the area. La Sassa is a medieval village built around an impressive tower. Stone houses, narrow lanes, the San Martino church with its bell tower: it is a unique village, an authentic paradise of nature. In Sassa you are immersed in a different environment full of mystery, nature and peace. A local bus service available for connections to explore further in Tuscany. It is the place to be for nature enthusiasts: from the village, you can follow a variety of trails which take you through enchanting historic sites, such as a bridge crossing the torrent or scenic vista points offering views of the Val di Cornia and the Gulf of Piombino. The thermal baths of Bagnone, a Hellenistic structure which dates from the 3rd century BC, now reopened to the public after undergoing archaeological digs and a restoration. Here, you will find thermal waters to enjoy.

La Sassa is located in the comune of Montecatini Val di Cecina. Very popular are the thriving copper mine caves that made this town very prosperous in the past. The mine has now been converted into a fascinating museum for visitors. The countryside extends from the mountains to the east, through the vineyards terraced on the low hills and down to the Mediterranean scrub with pine woods and brooms to the west. The golden hills are planted with orchards, vineyards and olive groves. The area is scattered with historical towns and medieval villages, castles and country churches and a landscape with golden meadows, vineyards, olive groves and fields of sunflowers. Caught in a time warp, entering the village is like stepping back to where time stands still. Val di Cecina is in the heart of Tuscany nestled between Pisa, Florence and Siena.
