Full Description

Fourteenth century castle set in a dominant position opening onto the picturesque village square in a lovely village in the Lunigiana region of Tuscany. The castle is divided into areas, and can have a number of uses for commercial rental options or as a wonderful home. It has three panoramic large terraces and some land (not directly connected to the castle).

Access is from the main piazza through an imposing arched stone doorway into an original stone paved entrance. There are large stone wine cellars complete with big wood barrels and vaulted ceiling. On this level accessed from the side of the building there is a shop with three rooms and bathroom. Upstairs is complete with original ancient terracotta floors, ceilings with frescoes dating mostly to the 17th century, a terrace off the kitchen and overlooking the village square and balconies.

Accommodation on this level comprises a large living room with centrepiece fireplace, dining room, study, kitchen, TV room, five bedrooms, two bathrooms and a further two rooms; On the second floor there is a self-contained portion comprising living room with fireplace and original wood box ceiling, kitchen, dining room, study, terrace, bedroom with fireplace and bathroom; This level also has a super terrace (top of the old tower level) with wonderful views over the village rooftops and to the hills and valley beyond.

On the same level but requiring some restoration work there are a further seven rooms and a bathroom. The next level comprises five attic rooms with high ceilings, a covered terrace and a large open terrace with views. There is also a portion of land (1,000 sqm) on the other side of a small road.

Licciana Nardi is a small town in the Taverone valley with 13th century pedestrian street flanked with local shops. Central in the town is the Piazza del Municipio, this wonderful castle and church and the piazza hosts many festivals such as the Chestnut Festival in the autumn. The castle is linked to the baroque church by a covered bridge so that the nobles had direct access to prayer and dealings with the local priest. .

Lunigiana is a magical part of Tuscany. The hills which encircle Lunigiana create an intimate and relaxed atmosphere whilst the blend of the mountains and sea are extremely inviting to those who enjoy the outdoors. The rolling landscape is liberally sprinkled with castles of Medici or Malaspina vintage and for lovers of the coast the sea is only half-an-hours’ drive away. The beaches around Lerici are beautiful, especially the little cove hidden behind Lerici castle. The long stretch of wide sandy beaches which starts at Marinella and runs all the way down to Pisa offers all sorts of watersports: surfing, windsurfing and with kayaks, boats and pedalos for hire. The magical Cinque Terre is a string of five fishing villages set along the sea cliffs offer the opportunity for great walks, or for idling in the seafront restaurants and stopping by for an aperitivo in one of the friendly bars. The Cinque Terre is a site of national importance and is listed with UNESCO World Heritage. Excellent days out can be spent at the Tuscan 'cities of art' of Lucca, Florence and Siena. All are easily accessible on the autostrada network, or by train from Aulla. Pisa airport is only one hour away and is an easy drive directly on the Pisa- Aulla motorway network.
