Full Description

Delightful village house, close to the Cinque Terre on the border of Liguria and Tuscany.

The Cinque Terre are five villages on the narrow coastline north of the Gulf of the Poets, with pretty coves, great beaches and with wonderful seafood and fish restaurants. The area can be accessed on foot, boat or with the local train which shuttles between the villages. Anyone visiting the Cinque Terre should take a walk along the cliff paths which link one village to the next, stop in one of the restaurants and try the anchovies marinated in olive oil and garlic, served with delicate white wine made from the grapes which grow up the steep terraces.

The property is set in a pretty village and it borders a small stream with a wide terrace which overlooks the stream and makes for a perfect place to relax.

Entrance to the first floor with living room, kitchen and terrace of 30 sqm; upstairs there is a bedroom and steps leading to a further attic bedroom; the lower floor has been restored and offers a self contained unit with bathroom, kitchen and large open plan room which can be used as another bedroom. The property is presented in good condition and has central heating and modern services, although it would be benefit from a refresh. Altogether there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms in two units.

The Cinque Terre (five towns) is a string of five fishing villages perched high on the Italian Riviera, in Liguria, which until recently were linked by mule tracks and accessible only by rail or water. An ancient system of footpaths is still the best way to visit the five villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. The Cinque Terre are noted for their beauty. Over centuries, people have carefully built terraces to cultivate grapes and olives on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs which overlook the Mediterranean Sea. The hills that encircle the Cinque Terre are criss crossed with walking trails and offer excellent hiking routes. The breathtaking views of harbours far below and rugged coastline, together with the medieval fortresses and plentiful vines and vibrant colours make this a very special place to enjoy. The Cinque Terre, recognised in 1997 as a UNESCO World Heritage site, are today a National Park and Protected Marine Reserve with the aim of protecting this great cultural heritage and natural environment for future generations.

Portovenere is a picture postcard old fishing town, dominated by a castle on the hill and the Church of San Giorgio on the tip of the promontory. The tall, narrow, pastel coloured houses with traditional green shutters line the seafront and the narrow, cobbled streets, with excellent restaurants and interesting craft stalls. Just around the bay are the Cinque Terre. Boats run from Portovenere to the Cinque Terre and to Lerici in the Gulf of the Poets. Sailing is a favourite pastime in the area and crewed or skippered yachts are available for hire.
