About The Village of Luz de Tavira
The first references to the existence of the parish date back to the sixteenth century (before 1514) and its importance comes from intense agricultural activity.
The parish of Luz de Tavira is located six kilometers from Tavira and is bounded to the south by the Ria Formosa and to the north by the parish of Santo Estêvão.
The population lives mainly from agriculture, harvesting of bivalves in the area of the Torre d'Aires (where structures of the important Roman city of Balsa dating from the 3rd to the 1st centuries A.C.), production of good quality citrus fruits and small trade were discovered. Works are produced in iron and joinery and articles for artisanal fishing.
In gastronomic terms, in addition to the feijoada of cuttlefish, oysters and corn with conquilhas, should be highlighted the regional almond sweets, to enjoy in the various restaurants of the parish. Regarding housing, the parish has some infrastructure.
Walking the paths of this parish will provide the visitor with a journey through traces of an important historical legacy that is reflected in the heritage and natural beauty of its landscapes.
