LOCATION
From “IlFattoQuotidiano.it” by Guiseppe Pagano.
"Montecastelli Pisano: the music village of prof. Bonhoeffer, the heart surgeon luthier.
The small villages are like human bodies, and their hearts may be given a new life by the music. This similarity is well suited to the history of Montecastelli Pisano, concentric tangle of houses gathered around a fortress-tower of the fourteenth century. Thanks to the inspiration of a German luthier surgeon Montecastelli has become a lively cultural village that today attracts musicians from all over the world.
The village is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the Tuscan countryside, on the border between the provinces of Pisa, Siena and Livorno. When Dr. Philipp Bonhoeffer, pediatric cardiac surgeon among the most popular in Europe, as well as great music lover since childhood, arrived to Montecastelli, he felt immediately such a strong bond with the community of Montecastelli that he decided to create a concert hall, a workshop of violins and to restore various historical architectural building located in the village.
He has converted the former Church into a concert hall which is called 'the 99 chairs room". This is because there are 99 different chairs, very different from the monotony of the chairs present in the majority of concert halls. They have been a present of those who loved and favored the project. Many came from the inhabitants of Montecastelli, other from the rest of the world: France, America, Austria, Germany, England.
But there is another passion that grows from childhood: the doctor parallel to the sound of the strings likes to repair and to make violins. So he installed in Montecastelli his experimental laboratory.
There are initiatives put in place by Dr. Bonhoeffer in Montecastelli "Our project is ambitious and we want to do more. If all our dreams come true we will have a music-scientific project with master classes, concerts and high-level scientific conferences. They are currently restoring the former castle of Montecastelli and the medieval tower "........................ it is easy to find your way to Montecastelli, just follow the sound of the violin”
You can walk to the cosy an panoramic restaurant/bar, with table indoor and on the terrace.
