El Faro sits on a peninsular and is just a few kilometres from Fuengirola and 28km from Malaga International Airport and is known to the locals for its lighthouse that stands over the peninsula's point. There is some rocky coastline; hence the lighthouse but either side there are pleasant sandy beaches. This is a popular spot for surfers. The resort is supported by a few Chiringuittos (beach bars) and a number of bars and restaurants can be found either side of the main road at El Faro Playa. For a livelier pace of life, Fuengirola is just a short walk away or a bit of a further walk in the opposite direction is La Cala de Mijas.
