It is famous for its basket and cane ware made out of esparto and palm, sold in more than 50 shops. The Avenida de la Marins Alta and adjacent streets, house most of the craft shops. Gata is also well known for its grapes and almonds.

Gata de Gorgos with its white houses and ivory lintels takes its name from the Gorgos river, also known as the Jalon river. Walk along the left bank of the Gorgos River between the gardens of the Font del Riu, visit the San Miquel Arcangel church. The church was built in 1535, in the same year that the village became independent from Denia. If you walk along the back streets you will find the square which hosts an annual fair for puppeteers, painters and sculptors.

Discover the Archaeological Museum or the guitar factory which is situated opposite the train station. To enter you ring the bell on an otherwise anonymous wall and one of the staff will take you on a guided tour of the small factory where you will see the guitars being made by hand. Climb to the Santisimo Cristo hermitage. In addition there are the remains of Moslem settlements of the Font de la Mata or la Murta, of la Rana or the Font d´Aixa.

Access:
Gata Gorgos is situated approximately halfway in between Alicante (city) and Valencia, which both have their own international airport with direct routes to all major European cities- roughly one hour's drive from each city on the AP7 motorway. Gata Gorgos lies in the north end of Costa Blanca which is characterised by its beautiful, fertile and a diverse nature with rugged terrain and significantly less developments than other places on the Costa Blanca.
