Estee Lauder's

Villa Roche Cline, the house where Estée Lauder produced some of her most famous fragrances, is now available to buy for €9,850,000.

Bought by the cosmetics entrepreneur and her husband in 1961, and recently restored to a modern finish; the stunning Mediterranean villa offers six bedrooms, six bathrooms and a fantastic view of the coast from its upper windows.

The villa, which is listed on Estate Net France, was bought and restored in 2011 by Claudia Kempen, an interior designer and developer who found the property derelict upon viewing it with her husband.

Villa Roche Cline had been left empty and unloved after Estée Lauder's passing in 2004 but the Kempens took two years to do it up.

The walls of the manor were once embellished with the logo of Lauder's beauty company - and included the blue-green hues of the Estee Lauder livery - but have now been mostly plastered and redecorated, bringing the property into the 21st century.

Offering three reception areas, an exceptional garden terrace for entertaining guests, plus a heated pool, the property is classy and luxurious.

Lauder was believed to have produced some of her finest fragrances in Villa Roche Cline, including 'Beautiful' based on the aromas of jasmine and rose plants that flourish in the grounds.

Ever since nearby Grasse became the centre of perfumery in the eighteenth century, the south of France has been the centre of perfume design in Europe.

Boasting panoramic views of the sea, Villa Roche Cline is situated in a quiet area North of Cannes - Californie - within 800 metres of the famous La Croisette.

The décor is stylish and chic, with an open plan kitchen and dining room and wooden floors throughout.

The original marble and carved wooden floorings remain, giving the buyer the prospect of walking in Lauder's footsteps.

If you don't have the same deep pockets, you can get a studio apartment in Cannes from around €70,000 - even in the popular Californie area - or even one in the old town from around €130,000.

A two-bed apartment might cost from around €250,000, a three-bedder from around €500,000, and there is plenty for sale there right now.

Short-term rentals can be a great source of income during Cannes' numerous festivals, conferences and expos.
