New golf courses in Cyprus

The Cypriot government is expected to add to its country's growing collection of golf courses by permitting planning consent for the construction of two new courses at Fasouri and Limni.

According to the country's Interior Minister Neoclis Sylikiotis, the Town Planning Department will soon give the necessary planning for the new golf courses to be built, in a move that the government hopes will attract more people to buy property in Cyprus.

International demand for homes in Cyprus has fallen in the past two years, due to weak market conditions. But the government hopes that the new golf courses will act as a catalyst to attract more buyers, including many more Brits.

Sylikiotis told InBusinessNews that the golf project at Fasouri outside Limassol by Lanitis Farm Golf Ltd will include an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Cabell Robinson, a country club, along with various new homes.

Two golf courses at Limni in Polis Chrysochous, designed by Jack Nicklaus, are also planned, along with more high-end homes, a five-star hotel, among other facilities.

Another golf course designed by Sir Nick Faldo was officially opened in Paphos by the golfing superstar himself last October.
