Eurostar route to Provence good news for property buyers

Eurostar has announced its St Pancras to Aix-en-Provence route will continue following the success of its seasonal service earlier this year.

The Route du Soleil link, which connects London with Lyons, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence, was trialled from 4 May to 29 June this year and proved to be extremely popular, running at 90 per cent capacity.

Based on this success, Eurostar is now working on plans to introduce a year round service to the South of France from 2015 meaning that Aix-en-Provence can be reached from London in just over five hours.

Jelena Cvjetkovic, of Savills International Residential, welcomed the announcement, "this is great news for the area. Travelling by train is becoming more and more popular and we expect the new high speed route will open up the area around Aix-en-Provence and the surrounding Var coast in the same way that the TGV did for the Luberon."

Accompanying photo shows a six bedroom bastide set in parkland minutes from the town of Aix. The guide price is €3.9m from Savills.
