Breakfast at Tiffany’s townhouse goes on sale

As Breakfast at Tiffany's celebrates its 50th anniversary, it has been announced that the familiar town house at 169 East 71st Street where Holly Golightly (played by Audrey Hepburn) lived and hosted her wild cocktail parties has gone on the market for $5.85 million.

The exterior of the four storey, 3,200 sq ft. house in New York featured prominently in the 1961 film, although most of the interior shots were filmed on set.

The home is currently owned by broker Peter Bacanovic who bought it in 2000 for $1.88 million. It is currently divided into two apartments, but the agents stress that it could be converted easily into a family sized home.

The upper apartment consists of a sunny living room with wood burning fireplace and sweeping staircase, powder room, dining room with another fireplace and a renovated kitchen with laundry as well as two double ensuite bedrooms.

The lower apartment has one bedroom which is also ensuite, glass enclosed solarium with backyard and a library/office.

News website The Huffington Post commented: “It's a place of high style and romance set against the backdrop of a fabulous city - sort of pre-"Sex in the City" but with a better address.”

The property is being listed by Corcoran.
