Full Description

This Grand Villa is currently under construction. It provides an imposing dwelling with magnificent far reaching views across the hilly countryside and Tyrrhenian sea close to Messina, in North Eastern Sicily. It is surrounded by greenery and overlooks the sea, being just a few minutes from the characteristic town of Castanea.

The generous internal and external veranda spaces together with the possibility of being able to fully customize it, both in terms of the layout of the rooms as well as in the finishes, make this property unique. The large surrounding land (circa 10,000 m2), is partly flat and could easily accommodate a swimming pool. Some of the land is partly on a slope, filled with typical Mediterranean vegetation. The Villa is the ideal solution for those who love privacy and tranquility, yet will appreciate the spectacular views on offer.

The ancient and suggestive village of Castanea delle Furie rises to an altitude of about 400m on the green hills that surround the city of Messina. For its panoramic position, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Sicily, with views over both the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas. This enviable position, its healthy air, the tranquility and hospitality of its inhabitants have made it a holiday destination and preferred stay by the illustrious families of the Messina aristocracy, whose stay in the village is testified by numerous stately villas.

The city of Messina revolved around this village which was one of the most important hamlets of Messina, so much so as to arouse the interest of the military order of the Knights of Malta (and subsequently of the Knights of Jerusalem) of which it was a possession for centuries. The complex urban structure was enriched by remarkable buildings and works of art dating from the early Middle Ages to the eclecticism of the early twentieth century with twenty-four churches and three monasteries, most of which were destroyed by the earthquake of 1908. Among the churches that can be visited today we have those of San Giovanni, Santa Caterina, Il Tonnaro, Santa Rosalia and SS. Rosary.

During the Christmas period, the atmosphere of a Bethlehem village can be found in the alleys of the ancient farmhouse with the setting up of the famous Living Nativity Scene, one of the most evocative in Sicily. Finally, the Ethno-Anthropological Museum of rural, peasant and seafaring art in the Peloritani area is particularly interesting.

This Villa will make a fine luxury residence when completed.
