France still a favourite

France is attracting cash-rich bargain-hunters looking for somewhere safe to deposit their money.

That is according to a foreign currency broker which last month noticed a surge inmoney transfers for overseas property purchases in Europe, notably in the French regions of Provence, Dordogne and the Alps. The average amount being transferred was 220,000, said Currencies Direct.

Another,lesser-known region in France has landed on the British buyers radar Charente in mid-west France.

In the last month we have seen an increase in the number of buyers from the UK purchasing properties in the region, said Richard Dannreuther, director at Euro Immobilier Chalais, an agent in Charente. The majority of whom have cash or finance in place so they take advantage of current low property prices. Sowhat can you buy there? Typical of the region is this three-bed character property [above] in Brossac, southern Charente. Its on the market through EuroImmobilier Chalais for 150K (133K).
