The Smithy is surrounded by the beautiful Lancaster to Preston canal and also boasts its own fishing lake and all-weather bowling green. The rest of the park is nestled in the open countryside with views across the Trough of Bowland.

Garstang lies on the River Wyre, River Calder and the Lancaster Canal, on the eastern edge of the Fylde Coast with the Forest of Bowland to the east. The town has had regular success in the Small Town Category of the Britain in Bloom competition, and also featured in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights!

An arts festival and an agricultural show take place every year in August. A dairy, producing the award-winning Garstang Blue cheese is nearby. The town is well served by bars, cafes, pubs and restaurants, as well as a Golf and Country Club.

Further afield, the Forest of Bowland Area is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Until 1974, The Trough of Bowland marked the boundary between Lancashire and the West Riding of Yorkshire. After the reorganisation, in 1974, Lancashire ceded parts of what is now Cumbria, gaining more of the Forest of Bowland.

Much of the valley is unspoilt countryside, with rolling hills and streams, which has led to it being called ’the Switzerland of England’.

To the west of the Smithy is the Fylde Coast. A string of popular coastal resorts offering something for everyone. Bracing walks, the attractions and illuminations of Blackpool and the sophistication of Lytham, to name but a few!
