Full Description

In the heart of the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park, located between Issoire and La Chaise-Dieu, this imposing castle was built in the twelfth century and then remodelled in the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

It has been the property of illustrious figures in the history of France, including in 1352 Joan I, Countess of Auvergne and Queen of France, the Viscount of Turenne and the Lafayette family. During the Revolution, the castle was sold as a national asset and divided into three lots. The most important, representing the South Wing, belongs to the Sisters of the Good Shepherd who set up a free school there until 1955.

Facing south, the castle consists of a main building flanked by a massive 15th century cylindrical tower 12 metres in diameter. It comprises 4 independent apartments.

It develops approximately 504.88 m² of living space.

On the ground floor:

Not included in the living area and overlooking the inner courtyard three vaulted rooms of 26 m², 31 m² and 12 m² could form a reception room.

On the first floor, a landing of 22.43 m² leads to a T5 apartment of approximately 174.37 m² including a large living room, a library, three bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a shower room.

This floor benefits from underfloor heating.

On the second floor, a landing of 3.23 m² and then a corridor of 8.91 m² lead to a T2 apartment of 33.13 m², a T3 apartment of 60.12 m² and a loft-style apartment of 72.42 m².

On the top floor, a large attic of 219 m².

The central heating consists of two boilers, one of which is a 1998 Chapée oil boiler, with a 2000-litre tank, and an Okofen wood pellet boiler installed about ten years ago, with a 7-tonne silo. According to the current owners, consumption is about 21 tons per year. The domestic hot water is produced by three electric cumulus tanks. Double glazing throughout.

The whole is connected to the mains drainage.

All the roofs have been redone since 1997.

The apartments can be rented either as furnished tourist accommodation or annually. All accommodation is free of occupancy. They can also be combined into a single dwelling.

A first gîte, adjoining the castle, develops approximately 215.95 m² of living space. It benefits from its own independent entrance to the square.
