André Pavlovsky, one of the most inventive architects of the Basque Coast, designed 'Etche Soua,' a complex and highly expressive villa. Built in 1929 for Mrs. Akerman on one of the most beautiful sites in Chantaco, 'Etche Soua' stands proudly on its nearly 4,000 square meter plot, offering a unique panorama between the mountains and the ocean. Inspired by the spirit of the place, the architect created an irregularly shaped, swaying silhouette, characterized by a large, curved façade that opens widely onto the landscape. This allows for a continuous reading of the villa's architecture, where the compositions become dynamic and ever-changing. The refined aesthetic of the Art Deco style employed by Pavlovsky is combined with a personal interpretation of elements from the Basque, Neo-Basque, and Hispanic architectural vocabulary. The smooth, white facades feature numerous bays and doorways dominated by semicircular arches, highlighted in places by sculpted stone cartouches and wrought-iron elements: railings, mullioned windows, and arabesque clasps on the balcony. The villa unfolds over nearly 700 square meters and offers spectacular proportions. Upon entering, one enters a double reception room with a 7-meter-high wooden ceiling, following the curved, partially glazed wall that opens onto the valley. In total, nearly 12 rooms spread over three levels comprise this remarkable building. An exceptional site, a testament to the freedom of expression and audacity of André Pavlovsky in 1929.
