Full Description
Where are we?
In the heart of the town of Condom, with all amenities within walking distance: primary and secondary schools, high school, theater, cinema, tennis club, municipal swimming pool, hospital, local food shops, supermarkets, and many others. Just 45 minutes by car from Agen and its Tgv high-speed train station.
An elegant, unusual and surprising townhouse
This home offers the opportunity to live in the heart of one of the most sought-after towns in the Gers: Condom, with its cathedral, its pilgrims, its restaurants, and its streets lined with finely cut stone façades — among which this house stands out with its Art Deco frontage.
Set on a generously sized plot for a town-center property, it boasts a large and elegant reception lounge where one could easily imagine hosting friends for a “Roaring Twenties” themed evening. A wide bow window opens directly onto the rear of the house and its fully enclosed walled garden. At the end of the garden, an outbuilding serves as a garage and tool shed.
Upstairs, a terrace echoing the geometric shapes of Art Deco overlooks the garden and provides the perfect spot to enjoy warm summer evenings — perhaps while listening to “Summertime” by Ella Fitzgerald on a vintage record player.
The Property
Let us step through the small black wrought-iron gate adorned with elegant details, blending harmoniously with the white Art Deco railings that enclose the entire property — a perfect prelude to discovering the surprisingly refined interior of this home.
Before beginning the tour, it is worth noting that the current owners have undertaken extensive renovation work.
Ground Floor
The front door opens: what a surprise and what elegance! Our eyes are immediately drawn to the beautiful Art Deco staircase. It may not be the one on Rue Cambon, but at Bliss we are certain Coco Chanel herself could have walked up these steps.
White and flooded with light, it creates an elegant contrast with the black banister adorned with geometric motifs. It is truly the centerpiece of this hidden gem in Condom — impossible to imagine from the outside.
Straight ahead, a small door with delicate panes leads to a guest Wc with washbasin.
Continuing from the entrance hall, a first door opens into the ground-floor bedroom, featuring light parquet flooring and white walls. A second door leads to what will soon become this bedroom's travertine shower room and WC.
Returning to the entrance hall, we pass immediately to the left through double glass doors with antique beveled panes. Two imposing white columns confirm the Art Deco style and welcome us into a very bright living room with light parquet flooring, divided into two distinct areas:
• The first, for movie lovers, with a television space.
• The second, featuring brown leather armchairs and a black sofa facing an elegant brick fireplace — the perfect setting to savor a local Armagnac while being gently carried away by a jazz melody.
The living room opens widely onto the sun-drenched garden through a magnificent double bow window. The setting sun casts amber hues across the entire space.
At the back right, framed by white woodwork and small-paned windows with antique latches, we enter an equally spectacular kitchen. An exposed stone wall adds a mineral touch in harmony with the travertine floor. Black cabinetry and worktops contrast strikingly with pristine white walls and ceiling, from which Led lighting emerges, creating a modern yet welcoming atmosphere.
This space is large enough to host convivial family meals, and visiting friends will always find a seat at the table.
Extending from the kitchen, a French door reveals the majestic cedar tree standing proudly in the garden like a protective guardian.
An adjacent room, closed by a sliding door to the right, serves as both the boiler room and laundry area with washing machine.
First Floor
We arrive on a wide landing.
To the left, the largest bedroom, illuminated by two tall east-facing windows and featuring oak parquet flooring, opens onto what will become the largest bathroom. Everything is already prepared for a bathtub, shower, sinks, and Wc.
A charming cement tile floor, likely from the 1950s, with shades of blue and green, adds a vintage touch and extra charm to this surprising home.
Beyond it lies a second, more modestly sized bedroom with its own fireplace and access to the terrace overlooking the garden and offering views of the beautiful cedar tree.
Still to the left at the end of the landing is a shower room with shower, washbasin, and WC.
The third bedroom, to the right of the landing, is bathed in golden light during the gentle hours of sunset. Mosaic parquet flooring covers this entire level, except for the first bedroom.
Second Floor
Continuing upward, we reach a black-and-white tiled landing, very bright thanks to a skylight reminiscent of the 1950s.
To the left, a large luminous room currently serves as an artist's studio. It could easily become a fourth bathroom, as all plumbing connections are already in place.
In the center, a spacious and spectacular room reveals its beautiful roof framework like a hidden treasure. Currently used as theatrical storage space, it could tomorrow transform into a vast master suite, complete with a dressing room hidden behind a curtain in a final adjoining room.
Gardens and Outbuilding
The garden, with its terraces and columns, evokes the décor of the past. The outbuilding provides a very practical garage for a town-center location, as well as storage for gardening tools.
The Bliss Opinion
This rare home is a true surprise for the area, enchanting us with the spirit of the Roaring Twenties.
It is suited to a family, a hospitality project welcoming tourists or pilgrims, or even a restaurant (subject to obtaining the necessary permits and authorizations).
It offers endless possibilities for lovers of quality living in one of the most charming towns in the Gers. Whatever their vision, future owners will find abundant inspiration within this vast and characterful interior.
