This beautiful, traditional palazzo is located in the historical centre of Fiumefreddo Bruzio (cs) which is approx. 45 mins drive north from Lamezia Terme Airport.
The palazzo was originally a hospital where injured French soldiers were taken during the time they invaded the area. It then became a specialist respiratory hospital in the 1200’s and later converted into a residential property retaining its original thick walls.
Enter the palazzo through the traditional arched door into a communal foyer then stairs lead to the apartment on the first floor. It is approx. 220sqm of internal space with a large terrace which has spectacular sea views.
Completely renovated by its current owners to include re-wiring, plumbing and internal rendering with the addition of a pellet fire and central heating. Fiumefreddo, since 2005, has been listed as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Enter through the Arch and meander through its traditional, narrow streets you will come across numerous churches – the Chiesa Madre di Santa Maria ad Adnexis is the impressive church just inside the medieval fortified walls, others include the Chiesa di Santa Chiara – built in 1552. There are restaurants, quaint shops and café bars, many located in historical buildings which lead eventually into the main piazza from where there are spectacular views of the coastline and boasting amazing sunsets. Overlooking the village is the Castello di Valle built in 1201 and partially destroyed in 1531, today it is preserved and visited by many.
The Marina of Fiumefreddo has many local amenities; shops, café bars, post office, restaurants and pizzeria and a beach front offering beach bars and lidos during the summer months.
The town of Amantea is a short drive away and is a small and busy town with all the modern amenities: variety of shops and boutiques, café bars, restaurants/pizzeria, gelatarias, pharmacies, post office etc. which blends well with the charming old historical centre where you can wander through the traditional narrow streets and enjoy the true feel of Calabria. The marina beach front offers beach bars and lidos and a small Acqua Park, children’s play area and a variety of seasonal activities. It also hosts many festivals and fieras during the year and a daily market selling locally grown fruit and vegetables.
The Property is also conveniently positioned to explore many other traditional villages and the stunning National Park of La Sila is approx. 1 ½ hour drive away, where you can take advantage of the many year-round activities that are on offer, including walking, pony trekking, quad bikes and in the winter months, skiing. Within easy reach via the Autostrada A3 is Reggio Calabria where you will find the Museum that houses the Bronzes of Riace among many other articles of archaeological interest. Relaxing and taking advantage of the benefits of the thermal springs -Terme Ligiuane, at Gaurdia Piemontese is also an option at only 30 km away.
