Bordeaux - Château Canadonne: 18th Century Vineyard Estate
This bourgeois estate, originally a vineyard property dating back to the 18th century, spans 34 hectares, including 18 hectares of vines (12 hectares currently planted), 13 hectares of woodland at the back of the property, and 3 hectares of parkland.
Originally a Roman farmstead, some ruins still remain on the grounds. The château itself was constructed in 1789 and was once the property of Marquis Philippe Henri de Ségur, the last Minister of War under Louis Xvi and a Marshal of France in 1783, the highest French military distinction.
Château Canadonne
An 18th-century building adorned with light-colored stone, suspended between the earth and sky. The ground floor features salons and a library, perfect for relaxing with a book or a drink. The château retains the charm and spirit of a family home, along with the mysteries of its origins.
The interior decoration is a conversation between the old and the new, blending refinement and audacity.
The main body of the château includes 2 large suites and 6 attic rooms. One of the wings has 1 suite and 2 large bedrooms, making a total of 11 rooms and suites.
Vineyard Information:
- The planted vineyard area is 12 hectares, with only 17,500m² meeting 2001 regulations: 1 hectare of red and 75 ares of white.
- In 2016, production was:
- 144 hectoliters of Bordeaux white from 2.6 hectares
- 532 hectoliters of Bordeaux red from 9.4 hectares
- The vineyard area represents only a portion of the total property.
- The most recent harvest produced 700 hectoliters, sold at €65 per hectoliter, for a total of €45,500.
- Currently, 1 hectare of red and 75 ares of white are compliant with 2001 regulations, which require at least 3,300 vines per hectare. There are currently 2,780 vines per hectare.
- To meet the 2001 standards, vines must be spaced 1 meter apart, whereas the current spacing is 1.2 meters.
- Vineyard replanting to meet the standards costs between €15,000 and €20,000 per hectare, with production expected after 3 years.
