The granite stonework alone is a joy to behold, as is the original corniced ceilings, hand crafted and dressed timberwork of the doors and frames along with the 'marmoreado' (marble effect) lined walls of the hallway found only in grand house of the era. The house can be accessed via the grand entrance at street level via the imposing original entrance doors, it is hard not to imagine you would have been greeted by staff at this entrance. On entering you will find the original tiled floors and are faced with the lovely wooden 4 flight staircase to the main living areas. On the right of the hallway is access to the large internal garage and to the left access to the adega, complete with granite tanks for the olives. The house can also be accessed via the patio calcada gardens with flower beds, via stone steps through the wrought iron gates. You are met with a stunning double terrace portico where the stonework defies its age. Stone steps lead you to the sunny terrace and front door. Om entering the house yo arrive in to a lengthy hallway typical of Portuguese period homes, here you can spend hours alone admiring the marmorado lined walls and the quality of the door frames and woodwork. The rooms have large windows with shutters and decorative cornicing. To the right from the entrance is a further 2 large bedrooms, the staircase and family bathroom. Taking the stairs to the third floor you will find a further 5 bedrooms and a wonderful room that would lend itself to a lounge, reading room, office for instance as this opens to the upper terrace where you can while away the hours taking in the views over the village. Outside you will find flat terraced gardens lawned in grass and a good manegable size. At the far end of the gardens you will find an additional small house, untouched for many years and ready for renovation that could be utilised as further accomodation or storage
Overall, this is a large high quality house generally in fabulous condition. There will of course be areas requiring repair taking into consideration the age however the condition of the house is generally excellent. The house would lend itself to a large family or possibly a bed & breakfast (AL). In summary, words cannot really do the house justice in my opinion and it is highly recommended that the house is viewed
