An old country house with a spectacular view over valleys and mountains as far as to the tips of the Serra da Estrela, situated on a little hill in a quiet area of a small hamlet belonging to the parish of Cernache do Bonjardim.
The property is accessed via a tarmac road. There is electricity and mains water connected. A septic tank exists.
The house briefly consists of:
- a ground floor consisting of a large garage for three or four cars and a separate storage room;
an exterior stone staircase leading up to an annex built onto the main house which houses what was formerly used as a separate living accommodation with a bathroom and two rooms, in former times the live-in maid´s room.
- a first floor in which the front door opens onto a corridor which runs the length of the house. There are two bedrooms to the right, each with one window, and a kitchen with an antique stone basin and drainer and built-in base and eye level fitted units. The walls are half way tiled and the floor is also tiled.
At the end of the corridor there is a bathroom with bathtub with shower above, pedestal sink, toilet and bidet. The walls are tiled the same style as in the kitchen, the floor is also tiled.
On the left hand side of the corridor, across from the kitchen, there is a dining room. The room next to it was being used as a third bedroom, could be used as a lounge as well.
The corridor and the dining room have 'tromp de l´oeil' paintings on the lower half of the walls, commonly used by well-to-do people in the 1930´s. In the corredor the walls are decorated in this way throughout. This finishing is still in good condition.
There is wood flooring throughout, except for the kitchen and the bathroom, which are tiled. The interior doors are solid wood, and the windows and the front door are solid as well, having been molded out of a smooth cement.
The house needs to be renovated, although the plumbing as well as the septic tank are new.
The current owners had the intention of renovating the house, they have already bought a large amount of the necessary materials, which are all included in the sale.
The house is structurally in good shape, its sturdy construction resembles that of a small castle.
To the front of the house there is a large terrace with a fantastic view to the surrounding landscape, into the valley of the Zezere river and, on clear days you can even make out the tips of the Serra da Estrela behind the Serra da Lousã. There is a locked iron gate before the stone steps leading up to the house itself.
The house is accessed via a driveway which leads into the garage. In front of the garage there is a flat piece of land. There is land all around the house with a good number of fruit trees. Altough there are neighboring houses, the property does have its privacy.
The property is situated in a little hamlet about 5 km from the town of Cernache do Bonjardim, which has a variety of cafes, restaurants, shops, mini-markets, schools, health centre, doctors, sports centre and post office.
It is also only a 15 minute drive from the market town of Figueiró dos Vinhos, where you also find a number cafés, supermarkets, doctors, outdoor swimming pool, public library etc,
The property is only about two km from the upper most part of the Castelo do Bode lake and the dam, popular for water sports and fishing.
There are good access roads to the property and the IC8 dual carriageway, which leads to the coastal towns of Figueira da Foz, is a short drive away.
The closest airport to the property is situated at Lisbon airport, which is around 175 kilometres drive. Lisbon airport is serviced by several low cost airlines which operate regular flights into and out of the United Kingdom and other European countries.
