Full Description
Nestled on the slopes of the stunning Serra da Estrela mountains lies the beautiful 22 hectare farm called Quinta da Gil. You can access the farm either from the top entrance via the typically pretty village of Galisteu or from the bottom track on the N17 main road, both tracks are good for cars. The farm has registered land of just under 22 hectares but there is also another 8 hectares that are as yet unregistered, there is a large 4 bedroomed house as well as 2 further additional buildings for restoration. There is plentiful water coming from mines and wells into water storage tanks, countless Olive and fruit trees, the views are simply spectacular. The nearest town is a 10 minute drive to Celorico da Beira.
The house is registered as 4 bedrooms but the owners have started to renovate the house and opened up one of the bedrooms to create a huge living area with amazing views of the mountains visible from every window. There is a large solid fuel cooker/oven in the main living area which radiates heat during the winter months and the wood supply would never be a problem with all the Oak and Broom available from around the farm. The 3 current bedrooms are good sizes and the farm is off grid so the current owners have solar panels for their electricity supply. The basement of the main house is split into 2 rooms and is currently being used as storage areas but could easily be renovated into large living spaces, also attached to the house is a garage.
The next building complex has 3 stone buildings, 2 of which are split level and all encompassed by a pretty little courtyard with a cobbled path down to the terraces, inside there is a double bread oven, a huge fireplace, the roofs on these buildings have recently been replaced.
Furthest away from the main house is another building also split level, solid metal doors and a view of the farm that simply takes your breath away.
The farm has beautiful granite boulders everywhere and if quartz is your thing, this is the place, it is everywhere here. There are well kept terraces ready for planting, Cherry, Fig, Pear, Apple, Walnut Bay Leaf trees as well as Elderberry bushes everywhere.
The closest main town is Celorico da Beira, there are supermarkets, doctors, schools, builders merchants, garages, restaurants, cafe’s and shops galore, there is even a small cinema, Tuesday is market day in the centre of the town. Guarda is your closest city about a 20 minute drive away, here you will find all the bigger shopping centres for anything you can’t find in Celorico de Beira. During the winter months you can also go skiing or snowboarding at the top of the Estrela mountains, there is so much to do around this area, you will certainly never be bored. This is still an untouched part of Portugal and not invaded by tourists, you really do have the best of both worlds here.
