The town of Stari Grad can be traced back to 2,000BC when is was originally called Pharos, after the Greek town of the same name. Stari Grad ferry port is home to Jadrolinija who offer a comprehensive service to the mainland with up to 6 ferry crossings in the summer months. Nearby the town of Jelsa has a daily catamaran service also run by Jadrolinija to Split via the town of Bol on Brac Island. In addition their is also the new and highly acclaimed European Coastal Airline service which has several daily flights from Jelsa to Split airport in under 15 minutes!
