On the other side of this is the little village of Caccamo itself. Five kilometres to the north is the Gulf of Termini Imerese on Sicily's north coast, with beautiful beaches to explore from Casteldaccia in the west to Cefalù in the east.
Although the nearest towns, Trabia and Termini down on the coast, have all the amenities you'll need for day-to-day life, and the island's capital Palermo can be reached in three quarters of an hour, the area around Casa Riccardo is completely rural and unspoilt. Houses are few and far between, and the surrounding hills are a mix of meadow, olive grove and citrus orchard. Nowhere is this better enjoyed from than the roof terrace on top of the house, from which you can savour a true 360 degree panorama of green and blue.
A BLANK CANVAS TO RENOVATE
The cottage is a mid-century structure with straight lines and a boxy silhouette. Divided into four rooms and a bathroom, it is big enough to sleep four if needed. You will love the view from the front living room, and off this is a covered veranda that's an ideal spot for outdoor meals. The kitchen is spacious enough to add a dining table of its own, and the other rooms are a double bedroom and a single which could accommodate bunk beds.
The wiring and plumbing will need to be replaced, and then the plaster and floors redone. The bathroom, kitchen and windows will follow, and then it will be a question of decorating and furnishing to taste. Fortunately the home is structurally fine, and there is no evidence of water damage, either infiltration or rising damp.
