Milatos is a delightful small and unspoiled fishing village. There are sea front restaurants, and a couple of local shops in the village, as well as more comprehensive facilities in the Sissi which is within a 10 minute drive. The old village of Milatos is about 1.5kms inland and consists of old traditional stone houses, a large church, a small local shop and a few kafeneons. There are wonderful views here down across to the sea and surrounding pountains. Approx 3kms out of the old village is the famous Milatos Cave. History has it that in 1823, 2500 Cretans sought refuge there when they were besieged by Turkish occupiers. It is still possible to visit the cave. The international airport at Heraklion is within 40kms.
