San Pedro del Pinatar is a small typically Spanish town on the Costa Calida dating back to Roman times and is close to the shores of both the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor. It has a fishing heritage and the name comes from a small church dedicated by fisherman to San Pedro.
It is particularly famous for its mud baths and many people come just for the health reasons attached to this special mud. In addition, it is edged with extensive salt flats sitting in an area of wetland formed over time with the sand dunes and beaches. This area is a regional park and one of the oldest in Murcia. It is inhabited by more than 100 species of birds and flamingos are regularly seen there.
