Piraeus is a city in the southern part of Attica and a municipality within Greater Athens, located c. 10 km southwest of its centre.

Piraeus is a big city bustling with life and an integral part of Athens, having the biggest harbour in the country and all the typical characteristics of a huge marine and commercial-industrial centre.

In terms of access and public transportation, the area is mainly connected to the other municipalities of Piraeus and the city of Athens by bus and trolley lines, while its major advantage is the train service and more specifically the relatively nearby Suburban Railway station and the I.S.A.P. Electric Railway Station of Piraeus (METRO – Line 1). Additionally, works are underway for the extension of Metro Line 3 (currently Airport-Agia Marina) to Piraeus. The new stations (“Agia Varvara”, “Korydallos”, “Nikaia”, “Maniatika”, “Port” and “Theatre”) are scheduled to open gradually and the project should be completed by 2018.
