Where to find a property for sale in Los Alcazares

Los Alcázares, located next to the shores of the Mar Menor, with seven km of coastline from Los Narejos to Punta Brava, is a bit of a hot spot right now.

Right at the heart of the coastline lining the Mar Menor, the resort of Los Alcazares is all about the beach. This former fishing village and spa town couldn’t be better placed on the sandy shores of this warm lagoon that is a haven for water sports.

40km from Murcia International airport, it couldn’t be much easier for weekends away either and really is the perfect summer playground. The town does get a lot quieter in the winter - despite the balmy temperatures - so do bear this in mind if you are thinking of moving to Murcia full time.

But it’s worth a look for sure, with its fabulously long promenade along the shore - the town is spread out along 7km of sandy beaches - that is popular with cyclists and walkers when it is not thronging with sun-seekers in August. It’s close to a nature reserve with many trails for hikers or horse riding and the area’s quite flat so good for cycling. Fancy a round of golf? There’s La Serena Golf Course and Roda Golf Course - or some mini golf at Golf Delux.

In the town, there’s a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants and there’s a street market every Tuesday and there is a good mix of social events such as the summer fiesta to mix with the locals and cosmopolitan mix of holiday homeowners. In the Los Narejos part of town, there’s the Bahia Centre with a mix of international restaurants.

A popular resort that attracts 100,000 people in peak summer, Los Alcázares is not the most affordable part of Murcia for the reasons already mentioned. You can buy a dated one/two-bedroom apartment for €60,000 - €65,000, a three-bedroom bungalow or house for €80,000, or a new-build three bedroom villa for around €300,000.

A bit further afield there are the great sporting facilities and restaurants of La Manga south on the Mar Menor, the historic town of Cartagena on an easy road south.  Along with the local golf course, it is reported that plans are underway to develop an agricultural area near the town centre with a new boulevard of shops and cafés.

For a huge choice of affordable, purpose-built holiday homes close to the beach (and very close the airport) this is hard to beat, especially if you want to take advantage of everything to do in and around the Mar Menor.
