At the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, some of the most important industrial foundries were established in Krestum, directly related to the production of Altu Douro wine, and later to the production of weapons.
In the middle of the 19th century, some of these industries were transformed into other economic activities, mainly spinning, and the Augusto Cesar da Cunha Moraes cotton mill was established, adjacent to Quinta da Estrela.
With an impossible mystery that envelops us on every side, this complex with a total area of 5972 square meters, located on 5.17 hectares of land, is the pride of this city and represents an architectural heritage of high cultural value.
Thanks to its solid slate construction, the building is in excellent condition and structurally intact, just 100 meters from the Douro River with magnificent panoramic views of it.
The factory is located 15 km from Porto, 35 km from the airport, only 3.5 km from the Marina do Covelo and directly in front of the Crestuma-Lever Dam, which is a very important factor preventing its demolition.
Proximity to existing embankments also facilitates access to the river.
In addition to this, there are several possible land routes, namely along the north bank of the river, to the northeast of E.N 108.
