The village of Macheri is located in the province of Apokoronas, 23km from Chania, it has 50 permanent residents and is considered one of the best-preserved traditional villages of Crete.

It has been characterized by the Ministry of Culture as a typical Greek village of exceptional natural beauty. Built amphitheatrically on the slope of a mountain at an altitude of 160 m, between two gorges, it is one of the historic villages at the foot of the White Mountains.

This village is particularly beautiful, due to the huge vertical rock on the western side, on which the white church of Agios Ioannis is located in a split in the rock, as well as the rich vegetation that covers the surrounding hills. On the eastern side of the village square, there is a small stone theatre with a capacity of 500 people with comfortable seats in which various cultural events are held every summer.

The village of Macheri, despite remaining outside the noise of the main roads and tourist Crete, is easily accessible. It is only 4 km from the national road that crosses the northern side of the island, 23 km from the city of Chania, 18 km from the port of Souda, 24 km from the airport of Chania, 40 km from Rethymnon, 1 km from road that leads to Sfakia and the south coast of Crete and only 5 km from the nearest beach and the village of Kalyves where there are public services and shops.
