Mijas Costa is the stretch of coastline that lies in between the boundaries of Fuengirola and Marbella. Most of this stretch of land has been urbanised and includes the resorts of El Faro, El Chaparral, La Cala de Mijas, Riviera del Sol, Sitio de Calahonda and Cabapino. Sitio de Calahonda is the largest urbanisation on this part of the costa and Calahonda beach is the largest beach in the Mijas municipality covering 4.5km of coastline.

The coastal bus service links all of these resorts and within Mijas Costa there are 12 golf courses. On its border with Fuengirola lies the Miramar shopping centre and the water park. El Faro sits on a peninsular and is just a few kilometres from Fuengirola and 28km from Malaga International Airport and is known to the locals for its lighthouse that stands over the peninsula's point.
There is some rocky coastline; hence the lighthouse but either side there are pleasant sandy beaches. This is a popular spot for surfers. The resort is supported by a few Chiringuitos (beach bars) and a number of bars and restaurants can be found either side of the main road at El Faro Playa. It is mainly an urbanised residential area that is very popular with self-catering apartment/villa holidays. For a livelier pace of life, Fuengirola is just a short walk away or a bit of a further walk in the opposite direction is La Cala de Mijas.
