Stari Grad also has a record-beating number of cafe bars, which is a prerequisite to the Mediterranean style of life. The local area also boasts some excellent beaches in the vicinity.
Stari Grad ferry port is home to Jadrolinija who offer a comprehensive service to the mainland with up to 6 ferry crossings in the summer months. Nearby, the town of Jelsa has a daily catamaran service also run by Jadrolinija to Split via the town of Bol on Brac Island. In the other direction about 15km away is the well-known town of Hvar which also has some spectacular architecture including the recent renovation of the oldest theatre in Europe.
