Keith and Heather want to spend up to £1million on two homes, one at home, and one away. Jonnie and Jasmine must find a place in the West Country with a lake, and a house with sea views in Croatia

More about Keith and Heather and their property search

Today's property hunt is a question of home and away.  Married Bedforshire couple Keith and Heather Darvall have a million pound budget and want a property in the West country and a bolt hole in Croatia. Even with their generous budget, the discerning couple have quite a hefty wishlist. As well as land, space and views in both of their properties, keen fisherman Keith is looking for their UK  home to have a lake. Will they have to compromise on one of the properties or will Jasmine and Jonnie rise to the challenge?

Home properties - West Country

The good news for the outdoor loving couple is that the West Country will offer them plenty of opportunity for al fresco adventures. Areas of outstanding natural beauty abound, and with rivers criss crossing the region, Keith may be lucky and get that lake he's always dreamt of. The problem the couple might face is high house prices. The market is stabilising slightly but has previously shot up, and so the Darvalls may struggle to find exactly what they're looking for.

Property 1
The first property the couple view is on sale through Philips, Smith and Dunn. It will cost the pair £629,950.
Property 2
Their next viewing is at an old fishery. Priced at £750,000, it is on sale with Stags
Property 3
The final property the couple see in England is an £849,950 lodge on sale with Symonds and Sampson

Away properties - Split, Croatia

The Darvalls have never visited Croatia, but have heard that it is a good investment because of its cheap property and high rental yields. Tourist numbers to the beautiful island of Split have been rising year on year, many of them British. In 2007 the numbers were around 57,000 and this has rocketed in recent times. Overseas visitors have been driven to the area to get a slice of the 260 days of sunshine a year. Split is one of the sunniest places in Europe and also a centre for culture, making it an ideal rental investment and a great place for the Darvalls to visit.

Property 1
The first Croatian property is a seafront townhouse costing £204,000. It is on sale with A Place in Dalmatia (no relation!)
Property 2
A Place in Dalmatia also markets the next property, a £206,000 detached house in Vinisce.
Property 3
The final house is once again on the market with A Place in Dalmatia. It costs £151,000.
