Elaine and Patrick Scott from Lancashire are both history buffs with a passion for the 1940s, and are looking to relocate permanently across the channel to Normandy in France. They’re drawn by the rich culture and history on offer there and with £140,000 to spend they are after a home in the Manche area. Laura Hamilton shows them five properties for their money.

Property 1:

Three bed house in Rampan

Semi-detached house with three good sized bedrooms, a garage and workshop and the potential to renovate a gite. The bathroom is downstairs but there is a dressing room upstairs which could be converted into another bathroom. The house is in good condition and has lots of character as well as a good sized plot of land. Priced at €159,685, it's on the market with Cabinet Faudais.

Three bed country house in Nay

This traditional style longere comes with half an acre of land and a vintage caravan! There's a large modern kitchen and open plan living area downstairs and three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. Although it doesn't have a garage, there is potential to build a car port. Ouestfrance-immo are the agents and the asking price is €171,500.

Property 3:

Four bed house near Portbail

Located in the quiet village of Fierville Les Mines, this house is packed with history - and was occupied by German officers during the war. The main house has an open plan kitchen diner and living room on the ground floor with two bedrooms and a bathroom above. To the back of the property is another kitchen and utility room, with another staircase leading to a bedroom and study in the attic.
