According to the Latin etymology, the name of Palaia indicated the place and the working of the wooden poles, to be used in the construction of buildings and boats. today it is also the starting point for scenic excursions of great beauty along the wine road of the Pisan hills, and also well known for its truffles, where the first identity card of Tuber Magnatum Pico (Latin name of the white truffle) was born.
Palaia had a period of prosperity from which the PIEVE DI SAN MARTINO XIII century was built (1279, church of Sant'Andrea from 1200. In the surroundings we find the village of Montefoscoli, where the museum of peasant civilization is located, and the Temple of Minerva Medica, known as a place of esotericism.
