Full Description

Ancient stone-built cortijo with hablitable 1 bedroom unit and two floors of buildings to renovate – large plot of usable land ideal for horses 15,304m2

A semi detached cortijo with a small habitable section and plenty more to restore, set on a wonderful plot of land ideal for horses

This fascinating and historic building is located amonst the rolling hills and hidden valleys of the countryside near the picturesque lake-view village of Los Romanes. Access is excellent with only a 200m track at the end, leading past the neighouring cortijo (which has been lovingly restored by the owner), leading to a parking area, couryard and patio, in front of the house.

The cortijo consists of a section that has been renovated, and the rest requires complete renovation. From the patio, the front door leads into a large living room (5.5 x 3m) with a beautiful, traditional fireplace to the left. Ahead is a door and a couple of steps to a bathroom (1.5 x 1.5m) and bedroom (4 x 3m). This is the renovated section, with new roof, and still maintaining the traditional sloping ceiling and beams and all its original character.

From the living room to the far right, a door leads into the start of the unrenovated part. We step into a very large room (7 x 3.5m) with beams and cane ceilings in need of repair. To the right is a door to another room (3.5 x 3m) with another fireplace and a door back out to the patio. Ahead, three steps lead down to a further room with sloping ceiling and beams (3.7 x 3m).

Outside, from the patio, we walk down a little hill to a lower doorway into lower ground level 1. This consists of a rectangular space of around 12 x 3m, divided into three rooms, with the remains of a staircase that leads back to the living room in the renovated part, where there is a hatch in the floor.

From this level, a door leads out into a walled patio, formerly animal yards, and a door from here leads into lower ground level 2, which is 6.5 x 3m, divided into two rooms.

The potential to convert this fascinating old building into a stunning, rustic, character home is huge. It could be made very beautiful indeed, and an entertaining and satisfying project, bringing a little piece of history back to life. It is large enough to be converted also into a main house and one, or two guest apartments.

The land, accessed along a short path below the animal runs, is a large expanse of very useable, only gently sloping land, where the current owners plant wheatfields each year. The land would be perfect for anyone with horses, or hoping for a large, useable plot. The views all around a very beautiful, and very open. The location is very quiet and peaceful.

Los Romanes village is around 6 minutes’ drive from this property and around 30 minutes from the coast.
