A little further afield is the wine town of Bergerac or take a trip across the border into Poitou-Charentes to visit Futuroscope or Monkey Valley. The area is known for its sporting opportunities including kayaking, tennis, cycling, golf and even hot air ballooning.

Airports within easy reach are Bergerac ( 70 minutes), Limoges (90 minutes) and Bordeaux (2 hours). The TGV goes to all these cities as well as to Angouleme. If you are driving, then the N10, N21 and A89 are all within very easy reach. St Malo is the nearest cross-Channel ferry port which is a decent drive but through an ever changing landscape to your journey south-west.
