The Brittany longere (long house) is not unique to the region but mostly found in NW France. Usually built of granite and often single storey, they are constructed with the back of the house facing the dominant wind direction. Typically they are 20-30m long and originally farmhouses. This one, and the adjoining neighbouring property, is probably around 150 years old.

The fully equipped kitchen /dining room is the heart of the house. It has a huge range of floor and wall units for storage, a central island and space for a 10-seater dining table. There are exposed stone walls and the ceiling is open to the full height of the house. Adjacent to the kitchen is the utility room. Light streams in from the velux windows above as well as from ground level. A spiral staircase from the kitchen leads to a mezzanine floor which is currently used as a reading area/guest bedroom.

There are two large living rooms, both with character granite fireplaces and wood-burning stoves. The smaller has been converted into a home theatre room with overhead projector and screen. The house was probably single storey at one time and so two of the bedrooms are not surprisingly on the ground floor. One has an ensuite bathroom and there is an additional family bathroom, with shower, WC, vanity unit and bath.

Stairs from one of the sitting rooms lead to the two remaining bedrooms, both on the upper floor.

Outside is a double garage with newly fitted overhead doors and a large stone barn currently used as a wood store.A smaller outbuilding is something of a ruin but could be rescued and used for further storage or perhaps as stabling with a bit of imagination. The land (2.19Ha) consists of three fields, a vegetable garden, and lawns, so the idea of a horse or two would be very practical. There is even the possibility of using some of the space as a building plot (subject to planning).

Callac is a very traditional Breton town, peaceful, pretty and rural, it is totally unspoiled and yet has most modern amenities. There are plenty of shops, a couple of supermarkets and an excellent patisserie. Market day is on a Wednesday, the ideal place to buy your fruit and veg and to enjoy the delicious Breton crepes. The department of the Cotes d'Armor has lots of wonderful beaches, spectacular scenery and coastal paths. There is an airport at Dinard but most travellers from the UK will use the ferry from either Portsmouth or Poole to St .Malo. The drive from the ferry port to the property will take a couple of hours.
